Getting new dentures can be quite the challenge. Simple things like eating will feel strange at first. While dentures replace natural teeth, they do not feel exactly the same. However, with practice, you can become a pro at eating with dentures. Dr. Steven and Randy and our team are thrilled to give you some advice to help you adjust to your dentures.

Take Time to Adjust

Take it easy when eating with dentures at first. Eat soft foods that are cut into little pieces. Chewing slowly is also a good idea. As you become accustomed to your dentures, you can slowly change back to a more normal diet.

Bite Carefully

Try not to bite at the front of your mouth with dentures, as this can make them unstable. The dentures would then move around, which could make your gums sore. If you do need to bite down on food, use your canines instead of your very front teeth. Also, be sure to chew food on both sides of your mouth to keep an even pressure.

The Long Term

With time, eating with dentures will become natural. You will soon be able to eat nearly the same diet as you had before. Be careful with sticky or hard food, as well as nuts and seeds. You may want to avoid these foods altogether.
